HEADWAY was founded by Dr. Fawaz Hamidi as a limited liability company. Originally established as a certified public accounting firm in 1996, HEADWAY evolved into a consultancy specializing in sustainable development across the MENA region.
In 2004, we expanded our services in Lebanon and the Gulf by launching a training division that offered strategic courses to senior executives from 17 nationalities across 11 countries. Notable offerings included the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) courses from ICMA Australia and the SME Manager (SMEM) course for startups and entrepreneurs.
From 2004 to 2006, Dr. Hamidi, as an elected council member and President of the Tourism Committee at the Municipality of Tripoli, led a volunteer initiative to restore 100 colonial-era buildings in the city center. This initiative significantly transformed Tripoli's landscape and had a lasting impact.
Between 2008 and 2012, Dr. Hamidi served as an elected council member and President of the Economic Development Committee at the Municipality of Tripoli. He spearheaded the economic component of the Alfayhaa development strategy, encompassing Tripoli, Mina, and Baddawi, which was endorsed by the World Bank and European partners. This strategy remains the primary document on the economic development needs of these cities.
After 2006, HEADWAY scaled back its activities as Dr. Fawaz took on the role of director and later chairman of BIAT, a Lebanese NGO supported by the EU and the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce. This role continued until August 2024. During this period, HEADWAY's expertise and training programs were integrated into BIAT's operations, contributing to its recognition as a model of good practice by local and international communities.
Throughout its history, HEADWAY has conducted various research studies, including a study on the Lebanese labor market for UNDP. Dr. Fawaz also published a book titled *“Business Incubators, Necessity vs. Opportunity Entrepreneurs”* with Scholars’ Press, based on a case study of three Lebanese business incubators.
In July 2024, HEADWAY resumed its operations, providing expertise on community development to Publicis Sapient UAE for a data strategy mission with the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi.
